One of the major threats people face in their houses is the numerous cockroach in all nook and cranny that seems so hard to get rid of and in a way causing irritations and other negative consequences.

Cockroaches can survive in a wide range of environments but are mostly found in warm buildings of a densely populated area.

Report had shown that about 78-98 percent of houses in the urban areas have this insect with over 900 cockroaches per home.

They do very well in homes where they can easily access food and water, but they can stay up to 3 months without food.

They are mostly found in corners, crevices and dark open places and hence the reason why it is called nocturnal animal (active at night).

Cockroaches can cause many health issues as it contains certain proteins (allergens) that can lead to allergic reactions and serious asthma problem.

The Dangers of having cockroaches in your homes

It can cause food poisoning

One of the major causes of food poisoning is the cockroach. They are carriers of bacteria and disease like the salmonella bacteria that causes typhoid and food poisoning. Food that is not well covered are often affected.

This insect perch on open food and infect them with whatsoever form of disease or bacteria that it is carrying.

The major problem is that many at times we don’t know to dispose of this food and stay safe, we eat the food ignorantly and when the pain comes we think that our enemies are at work.

Cockroach bites

If this had happened to you before you will understand how exactly it can be very painful and irritating. Some species of this insect have been found to bite humans most especially when one is sleeping.

This happens mostly in homes with high cockroach infestation. They nibble on your soft skin tissue parts and causes wound.

Many persons are used to putting off light when sleeping creating a better environment for them to act well.

Worsen asthma

The presence of cockroaches at home can be a big threat to asthmatic patients as the insect allergens can lead to severe complications which can eventually lead to the death of the patient.

Subsequent inhaling of cockroach allergens can also cause people who don’t have asthma to develop one as it is one of the possible causes of asthma.

Allergies

Cockroach has been known to cause some allergies as their body and saliva secretion contains many allergens that can consequently lead to body reactions such as skin rashes, ear infection, sneezing, and coughing.

Causes polio

This insect is a carrier of the bacteria poliomyelitis that can lead to the disease polio.

How to prevent and eliminate cockroaches in your homes.

• Always ensure your food is properly covered to avoid food poisoning and contamination.
• Always empty your garbage as soon as possible and keep them close to prevent them from entering as this can be a breeding ground for them.
• Cracked walls and all entry routes should be blocked to prevent them from entry into your house.
• Clean your house regularly
• Use pest control such as insecticides to spray your house immediately you start seeing them in your homes. After spraying stay away from the house for about 4-6 hours to avoid the effect of the chemicals on your health. You should spray when leaving home.
• Keep all stored food well in tightly sealed containers
• Get rid of old books and magazines that are no longer in use.
