The Best Diets For Your Blood Type
What You Need To Know About Your Blood Type And The Food You Eat
Biologically, blood is a body fluid confined to blood vessels. It transports oxygen, nutrients, hormones, waste, etc. to various points of use or elimination. Blood contains red blood cells whose surfaces carry various antigens.
Antigens are either protein/sugar molecules produced by the gene in the blood to carry out various function which include;
Transport of molecules within and outside the cell membrane, attachment to other cells and molecules, partake in metabolic reactions, identification of foreign bodies, signaling of the immune system, etc.
The antigen present on the surface of the red blood cell determines the blood group of every individual.
It is believed that these blood group types are brought about by food that an individual is introduced to i.e this food determines the antigens on RBC surfaces which in turn determines the blood type.
There are various theories relating to diet/food with blood type. One of which is that there are certain food/diets that a particular blood group can easily digest for effective usage and vice-versa. It is believed that the ancestral blood type is blood group O.
This blood type is referred to as Hunters- these people are advised to diet that is very rich in meat, fish, and certain vegetables and legumes.
Blood group A is believed to have evolved when early men started growing crops (farming) and are thus called Cultivators.
Their diet should be likened to that of a vegetarian- which comprises of mostly plants and lacking meat which is believed to be detrimental to them.
Blood group B is referred to as Nomad– they seem to be in between the hunters and the cultivators hence their diet should be of both meat, plants, and dairy products. Blood group AB is called Enigma– they are inclusions of both blood group A and B. Their diet should be of both groups in addition to seafood.

Peter J. D’Adamo believed that these food are linked with the blood type. When people constantly eat food according to their blood type, the food reacts chemically with the blood type/antigen for efficient digestion and usage thereby making more energy available for the body, maintaining ideal body weight gain, and also help in preventing certain diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
One of the central truths regarding these theories has to do with the protein- Lecithin. Lecithin is a principal group of proteins and phospholipids that can bind sugar molecules together.
These lecithins are believed to be anti-nutrients present in food; they have negative effects on blood as they specifically target various blood group types. When these lecithin are consumed, they cause red blood cell agglutination which is very detrimental to health.
It is important to note that there is evidence that proves the presence of lecithin in some raw and uncooked food such as legumes which can result in an agglutinating effect on blood.
However, this should be of little concern as cooking (application of heat) eliminates these harmful lecithins. It is also paramount to note that studies have proven that lecithin is not specific to any blood type. It is harmful to all blood types.
Conclusively, it has been reported that the health benefits seen in those eating diets according to their blood type is also reported among those that do not.
The advantage it has is that one treats him/herself to a rich and healthy meal at all times thereby bringing about a significant health improvement.
